ESOL Entry 3
To prove you knowledge of English for citizenship or settling in England, you have to either have an ESOL Entry 3 qualification or higher which is on the Ofqual list or a recognised English test and qualification found on the home office’s list.
From November 2015 the ESOL Entry 3 on the Ofqual list will no longer be acceptable by the home office but the trinity b1 speaking and listening will be equivalent to the ESOL Entry 3 qualification. Another one which is also the equivalent to the ESOL Entry 3 is the IELTS Life Skills.
At Extra Learning UK LTD we are accredited to do the ESOL Entry 3 exams which are done through Pearson. ESOL Entry 3 is a very in demand course and 70% of our students enrol to do the ESOL Entry 3 B1 preparation and test. We also get some students who do not wish or require the ESOL Entry 3 preparation classes and only wish to do the ESOL Entry 3 exam only so we still provide the ESOL Entry 3 for these students too.
After November 2015 we will still be providing the ESOL Entry 3 preparation and exams as even though this may not be accepted by home office, it is still a recognised qualification which can be used for other purposes. ESOL Entry 3 can be used for things like proving your level of English when applying for a job or when wanting to get admission in a college. Having ESOL Entry 3 demonstrates that you have the sufficient level of the English language in the UK.
There will be a lot more preparation involves with the new Trinity B1 exam than what was with the ESOL Entry 3. Both the Trinity B1 and the ESOL Entry 3 are similar as they both test your listening and speaking. As with the ESOL Entry 3, for home office purposes you were able to do your preparation and exam in one place and as well as Extra Learning UK LTD there was a large number of providers that were also accredited to do so. How the Trinity B1 will differ from the ESOL Entry 3 is that you will be able to do your preparation at Extra Learning UK LTD but your exam will have to be booked at one of the 10 location through the UK. This means it may not be easy to find a suitable location to suit you to book your Trinity B1 exam than it was with the ESOL Entry 3.
How the Trinity B1 exam differs from the ESOL Entry 3 is you will be expected to prepare 6 topics which the examiner will pick 2 for you talk about. With the ESOL Entry 3 you were given a general topic and discussion points you had to cover with another candidate so you had 2 people sitting the exam as with Trinity B1 exam it will be on a one to one basis with the examiner.
The first part of the ESOL Entry 3 was the examiner read out a text twice in which you were able to make notes and then you were asked 3 questions. This part of the ESOL Entry 3 was for you to demonstrate that you were able to listen and respond giving full sentences for each answer. How the first part of the ESOL Entry 3 differs from the Trinity B1 is that you have to prepare a topic of your choice and talk about it and the examiner will question you about it. Slightly different from the ESOL Entry 3, you must ask the examiner one question back.
The second part of the ESOL Entry 3 as mentioned earlier was 2 candidates took part, you were both given a general topic to discuss and discussion point you had to cover. The purpose of the ESOL Entry 3 part 2 was for you to ask questions, take turns, give opinion on the topic and also make statements and request. The difference again with the Trinity B1 exam to the ESOL Entry 3 was you have to prepare 2 topics and the examiner will ask you questions and you must ask the examiners questions.
All in all there are a lot of similarities with the ESOL Entry 3 and the Trinity B1 exam at the same time there is a lot more involved with doing more preparation with the Trinity B1 than what was in the ESOL Entry 3.
