What is the ESOL A2 Test ?
As per Home Office guidelines, any applicant who is applying for Further Leave to Remain Extension (Spouse / Parent visa extension), they must pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) at atleast CEFR level A2 in Speaking and Listening.
It is is a Home Office requirement that non-EEA nationals need to pass a SELT in speaking and listening at level A2 after two-and-a-half years in the UK in order to extend their visa, which in turn will qualify for further leave to remain on the five-year partner or parent route to settlement.
Changes in English Language Requirement .
From November 2016 the requirements have changed when applying for further leave to remain / extension (Spouse / Parent visa extension) from ESOL (A1) (Entry level 1) level to ESOL (A2) (Entry level 2). If you have already passed ESOL at A1 level previously, you will need to sit for an ESOL A2 level (Entry level 2) at an approved SELT centre.
The new A2 requirement delivers the government’s manifesto commitment to ensure that those coming to the UK on a family visa with only Basic English will become more fluent over time. It will mean that the person can engage better in everyday conversation and thereby better participate and integrate in everyday life in the community.
Where can I sit for the SELT approved A2 Test ?
English Test UK offers Entry Level 2 / A2 CEFR Test at different locations within the UK. We provide qualifications approved by the Home office and work with approved examination bodies to offer qualification to applicants who are applying for Further Leave to Remain Extension (Spouse / Parent visa extension). We provide all qualifications that are on the SELT list and at a SELT approved test centre.
How to prepare for the English A2 Test ?
Once you have booked your test with us we will provide you with the appropriate study material that will guide you on the format of the test. We will also provide you guidelines for the Exam so that you are well prepared for the test. Visit our Preparation section for more information.
We also provide classroom based training sessions with our selected English Language training providers. The fee for training is separate and varies from centre to centre.
